The Endangered Species Act (ESA) was passed and put into effect by congress in 1973. This act gives the EPA the ability to protect species which have been determined to be “at-risk”. The ESA gives the EPA the authority to ban any actions which may be a risk to species which have been placed in the endangered list. This expands to include any habitat which is circuital for the survival of the endangered species (Editorial Board, 2015).
