Jessica Rodriguez-Calderon November 2, 2012 The Dark Vulture During the early 1800’s, folklore was reaching its peak. Novels and poetry of great darkness were being told. These pieces of literature would keep people up at nights. I never got into the unknown or even basked on the paranormal, until one frightening day. It’s been stuck in my mind and has yet to leave. It’s what I’ve thought about for nearly 20 years. I’ve reached the age of 47 and lay in my deathbed. I must record these thoughts onto paper. Heed my words carefully fellow reader, for this is not for the weak of heart. The date is October 31, 1928; I have celebrated my birthday and calmly await my gifts. I knew for certain it would be the same gifts. 2 silver coins and a pair of woven sweaters. My life was bleak living in the slums of London. I would often dream of a pristine lifestyle, but it wasn’t meant to be. Whatever the case, my birthday this year was unpleasantly different. Things just felt obscure for some reason. Things weren’t this unsettling usually, but I put it off as being an off day. I walked a few blocks north, and decided to spend the night of my birthday in solitude, at the local bar. I ordered a glass of rum and sipped it. The sensation it gave brought me to peace. In the corner of my eye, I spotted an unusual old man. His eyes were as red as fire and it would later occur to me his heart is as cold as ice. He continuously stared at me and didn’t look away, when I
