Assignment #4 Chuck Baird Chuck Baird, a visual artist on the Deaf world view, is quoted saying, “I no longer paint what people would like to see. I paint for myself. It is about my own experience, my love of ASL and pride in our Deaf heritage…Deaf art expresses the values of Deaf culture.” Being born deaf in February 22, 1947 and well educated in ASL at the Kansas school for the Deaf, to Gallaudet University and then Rochester Institute of Technology. He took his education and passion for art and traveled over his lifetime to hold many different positions of work. His art was well known and highly recognized in the Deaf community. During his lifetime, he was a painter, an actor, a storyteller, a sculptor, and a teacher during his 35-year career. He created murals that still stand today, including a 150-foot collage for the Learning Center for the Deaf Children in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1995, and the “The Five Panels: Deaf Experiences” at Gallaudet University.
