Assignment #7 What is the Silent Weekend? Where is it and when is it? Who can attend the world’s largest silent Weekend? The Silent weekend is a voice off workshops that allows those with no skill to born abilities to get involved in classes and submerse themselves into Deaf society. This year’s event will be held on June 23 rd -26 th , 2016 in Orlando, Florida. This Silent Weekend is aimed at interpreters and language acquisition students and Professional Development Certificates are available. This year’s instructors include; Zee Astone, Ray Cole, Patrick Fischer, Donna Flanders, Jose Granda, Erik Hoover, Nigel Howard, Claris Howard, Paul Jones, Jim Lipsky, Maureen Longo Tuccelli, Annie Pearl Murphy, Adan Penilla, Faith Powell, Christopher Rawlings, Crom

They will be teaching everything from beginner classifiers, “You drive a Tank to School?” to Advanced classes in literature, “Green Eggs and Hamlet.” I think that this would be an amazing weekend to attend once I overcome my fear of responding in ASL past the auto responses that I have learned over the semester. I am attempting to work on these fears by attending Deaf chat events and study groups each week. Hopefully by the time I attend ASL II in the Fall I will be more comfortable with communicating and trust in the process....
