2 Rumors have a way of spreading like wild fire during a drought. Large corporations can fall victim to even the weakest gossip and Starbucks became the target of social media “gone wild”. When an email was sent in 2004 stating that “Starbucks refused to send coffee to support the troops, and was against the war.” Outrage spurred the message forward and within five months the coffee giant was treading water to recover its “rich” image. In April 2004, Marine Sgt Howard C. Wright caught wind of a rumor stating that Starbucks had refused to send coffee to fighting soldiers overseas. Whether this came to him via word of mouth, or through another email does not matter. However, the simple fact that he took it upon himself to write up an email stating what he heard and then proceeded to pass it on to
