ABA Isolated separately as affecting bud dormancy and abscission, so given two names- dormin and abscissic acid The name abscissic acid stuck, although ABA is not really involved in abscission! There is also debate how involved ABA is in bud dormancy! ABA is most important for seed dormancy and drought tolerance ABA synthesis Produced from carotenoids beginning in the chloroplasts or related plastids Zeaxanthin, a tetraterpene NCED is first committed step of ABA biosynthesis and inmost tissue is the rate limiting step NCED is induced during seed maturation or drought stress ABA is rapidly degraded through hydroxylation ABA can also be reversibly conjugated to glucose for storage ABA transport ABA moves from roots to shoot in xylem, especially during drought stress, but ABA is also synthesized in shoots ABA accumulates in guard cells during drought stress ABA moves long distance in the xylem ABA moves between cells by active transport and by diffusion controlled by an anion trap

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
