Expressions of Amplitude Instantaneous amplitude is the magnitude of displacement along the waveform at an instant in time Peak Amplitude is the distance between the equilibrium position and the peak excursion Peak-to-peak amplitude is the distance between the positive peak excursion and the negative peak excursion or peak condensation and peak rarefaction Root-mean-square (RMS) is the average of many instantaneous amplitudes
