EXPERIMENT 10 CARBOHYDRATES Name: Dhara Patel Debbie Lo (Lab Partner) Date: April 11, 2008 Objective: To compare and contrast different carbohydrates reactions of monosaccharide, disaccharides and polysaccharides by observing oszone of glucose and fructose solution and acknowledge how enzymatic hydrolysis of a glycosidic linkage occurs. Also, to understand how reducing and non-reducing sugar visually by using Benedict’s reagent for glucose, fructose, lactose, sucrose, starch, sucrose with yeast and starch with yeast. Discussion: In this lab, there was six different parts, where we synthesized polymer such as plexiglas, glyoxal-resorcinol polymer, nylon and glyptal resin, and studied polymer properties of how hydrogen bonding occurs along with osmosis. For plexiglas synthesis, we used 5 mL of methyl methacrylate and added obtained grains of benzoyl peroxide. After having it boiled for 1½ hours, resulting the plexiglas to be shaped as the test tube.
