Sex: A biological issue o Sex refers to a biological distinction between females and males. o A child’s sex is determined biologically @ the moment of conception. o A higher death rate among males make females a slight majority by the time people reach their mid-thirties. Sex and the body o Primary sex characteristics are sex characteristics present at the time of birth. o Secondary sex characteristics are characteristics that develop during puberty. o Gender refers to the social behaviors and traits that a culture attaches to being male or female. o Intersexual people have both male and female sexual characteristics. o
