Hello everyone,The definition of death to me is when all signs of life are gone and there are absolutely zerochances of recovery. The biomedical and legal explanations of death are described in a 2016 article within theJournal of Law and Biosciences which states that the biomedical and legal standard for deathhas been defined through the Uniform Determination of Death Act. This Act states death isdetermined when circulation and respiratory functioning has stopped and are irreversible orirreversible cessation of the entire brain including the brain stem.As far as ethical issues associated with death, I feel every person deserves a painless andpeaceful passing surrounded by loved ones. Unfortunately, this scenario is not always the case. There are countless cases involving immediate and lonely death and my dad’s death is a perfectexample of this because he died from a brain aneurism while alone in his home. Many cases involve slow death that may require interventions of comfort such as coma-inducedprocedures that help the process of dying to be painless. I feel doing what is best for the onedying is the highest ethical standard to abide to. In chapter 15 of the text underWHAT IS GOODDEATHthere are CORE PRINCIPLES FOR END-OF-LIFE CARE that help facilitate this ethicalstandard to which I feel would allow for a more comfortable transition into death that isethically sound for the patient and loved ones.A significant experience with the subject of death comes through my dad’s death in 2000.His death was a complete shock because it was without warning. One day he is with us, the nextday he is gone. I had always believed he would live well into my upper adult years. However, Iwas just 26 years old. As a young adult, I was unprepared to deal with death.
