Effects of MarijuanaThe increasing rate at which states are legalizing marijuana in the United States hassignificantly intensified the debate about the benefits and risks of medical cannabis. In situationswhere the use of this substance is medically disputed, it is becoming legal for its recreationalsuitability. New evaluations of the benefits of medical marijuana have brought various aspectsinto closer perspective. For instance, Americans are increasingly contending to the medicalbenefits of marijuana. Among numerous reasons given by Americans in support of thissubstance, its ability to suppress pain and eliminate depression, are the most common.Specifically, the suitability of marijuana among elderly people suffering from Parkinson’sdisease, multiple sclerosis, and schizophrenia is overly recognized. With recreational marijuana, the mentioned population is better positioned to self-medicate themselves against neurologicaland psychiatric disorders. In contrast, clinicians are opined that marijuana consumption is risky, especially for cancer patients under palliative care. From their observation, the associated effects, such as intensified pain, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, and regular sleep disorders, aremore pronounced among marijuana users than non-users. However, marijuana should be madelegal, despite addiction when consumed in large doses, because of its medical benefits based onthe ability to manage symptoms of neurological and psychiatric disorders among the elderly andcancer patients in palliative care.
