VARK Analysis There are many different ways students can learn. However, educators and instructor must be able to use a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of the every learner. Learning styles are used best to help learners and educators get a better understanding in the way they learn. Every individual has their own learning style and their own diverse way of understanding and remembering a subject. This paper will discuss VARKS different learning styles, explain the preferred learning style and describe how VARKS questionnaires view the learning styles. What is Vark? Vark is an acronym which stands for, Visual, aural, read and writing, and kinesthetic. Vark was developed in 1987 by Neil Fleming. It’s a questionnaire composed of sixteen questions, designed to help individuals determine which learning style is most effective for them. Vark is not used to diagnose learners, but to get people to reflect on their learning preference (Fleming, 2016). It first started on paper then as technology advanced it’s now available worldwide on the web, in many different languages. According to Fleming, there are millions of people that have completed the questionnaire worldwide and over 500,000 this year alone (Fleming, 2016). Although vark informs educators and instructors different forms of teaching; VARK also support learners that have been having difficulties with learning (Nuzhat,2013). Everyone learns differently, but everyone will fall under at least one of these categories. Some people may also be a mixture of more than one learning style. There are many different types of ways people can learn. For instance, some people like to learn by seeing things such as pictures, images and videos . These types of learners are visual learners. Theses learners benefit from using graphs, flowcharts, underlining, different colors and highlighting. Visual learners don’t benefit from movies, power points, videos or photographs of reality. Visual learners are more successful with symbols, initials, redrawing pages from memory or highlighting important key terms (Fleming, 2016).
