1Will Roper HIST 210 Perfect Princes Street It seems the greatest cities in the world all seem to have that one view that defines it. That angle is generally the one you seem on postcards, travel books, and on television. If someone was to see a picture of the Eiffel Tower or the New York City skyline from the Atlantic, he or she would most likely not think twice before being able to name the city no matter what corner of the world they hail from. Edinburgh’s picture perfect perspective must be that of Princes Street. With its grand castle, beautiful monuments, and picturesque parks and gardens, it is considered by many to be one of the most scenic urban strolls in the world. While I am not trying to rank Princes Street’s landmarks with the Statue of Liberty or the Coliseum of Rome, I do claim they are just as defining to the city. Edinburgh Castle is a mighty fortress placed on the daunting heights of Castle Rock. The majority of the castle dates back to the 16 th century, but the famous St. Margaret’s Chapel portion
