Two areas that exemplify their similarities anddifferences can be seen on the issue of the morality ofthe “leap of faith”, as well as theissue on religious moderation.Soren Kierkegaard as well as Sam Harris both agreed that the “leap of faith” wasunfounded by evidence or reason. Sam Harris holds that belief governs our lives andactions. These beliefs people hold, can be attributed to faith in that they have beliefs onthe metaphysical as well as historical truths, however; these beliefs are ungrounded byevidence or reason and therefore are “brute beliefs' '.Sam Harris believes that many ofthe worst acts throughout history have been guided by faith- such as the crusades, andwhen it comes to every other area of life reason and evidence are normally required.The question becomes, why for religion and faith do we disregard the need for solidinformation and supporting evidencewhen it finds itself in so many facts of our life? InSoren Kierkegaard has shown that he can agree with Harris on the grounds that faith isnot evidence based, when taking into account his view of Abraham in his writings of , “Fear and Trembling”.
