Affordable Care Act Challenges 2 Challenges faced with implementation of the Affordable Care Act The purpose of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was to make health insurance more affordable for people with little or no coverage “reasons for extending health insurance coverage is to increase people's access to needed health services” (Glied & Ma pg.6). Furthermore, even with the laws included, provisions inside the ACA are intended to control the costs most immediate to the people who pay insurance premiums and out-of-pocket costs for health coverage. Analysts have shown that with the greater expansion of health care access it will cause a strain on the US healthcare system as it will not be able to absorb the influx as the number of people rush emergency departments and Physician offices. The health system is already pushed to the limits with an influx of people rushing to hospitals around the US so it is believed that with new structural system changes the health system could handle the influx but the system is already falling short. Emergency departments have taken the biggest hit: a report shows the rise of emergency care "the numbers of hospitals has dropped but the number of ER visits has increased 70% since 1983" (Carlson 2010). The majority of people in the United States hold health insurance before the ACA’s introduction. However, the intentions of the Affordable Care Act was for people who could not afford health insurance “Only when the leaders of an implementing organization are fully sympathetic to a policy’s objectives and have adequate operational resources, including the appropriate technologies to get the job done, can they effectively carry out their implementation duties” (Longest 2010 pg.136 ) If the intentions of the ACA are true and thoroughly thought out, the new health care reform may have a chance to be a success. Along with that, another purpose
