Jonathan Simmons Professor Ramos ENGL 1301 1.25.08 Effects of Drugs on Criminal Activity - INTRO Both drug use and criminal activity has existed since the beginning of recorded history, probably well before that time. Each can exist without the other, although in today’s society most drug use outside of the supervision of a doctor is inherently illegal. Drug use has lead to criminal activity throughout most of recent history. THESIS From gangs and drug cartels to dealing drugs on the street or other avenues, to making false claims to obtain drugs from doctors, both upper and lower levels of income have criminal activity. - Gang activity also goes by another name, organized crime. There are several well known in the world today, the Sicilian Mafia, Chinese Triad and Japanese Yakuza just to name a few. Most gangs are only very small, encompassing only a city or a portion of a city. Cartels are essentially the same as gangs with one major difference, gangs will commit any number of
