Greg Smith Lab Report 4/2/2008 During this lab, we were trying to determine the subject’s VO2 max by performing a graded exercise test on him. We started off by having the subject sit in a chair for 5 minutes before getting baseline data from him. After the 5 minutes we took his resting blood pressure and heart rate. We proceeded by hooking up the head gear to the subject so that he would be ready to begin the graded exercise test on a treadmill. It is important to remember to put a nose plug on the subject to assure that he is breathing only through the mouthpiece. The treadmill started at a very easy level and gradually increased every minute. Every other minute we recorded his heart rate and blood pressure along with his RPE and VO2 max. This test was to continue for 10 minutes or until the subject could no longer continue. After the subject had completed the test to exhaustion (VO2 max), the treadmill was set to a slow speed for the subject to recover. During the recovery we took his heart rate, blood pressure and RPE again. There is a lot of equipment that is involved in able to determine a subject’s VO2 max. A blood pressure cuff and stethoscope were used to measure the blood pressure throughout the test. Normally a heart rate monitor would be hooked up to the subject, but since one was not available we had to go about measuring the heart rate by feeling for a
