Neuromuscular physiology study guide This entire module should be review for most of you. There are four broad learning goals that summarize the minimum knowledge necessary to understand testing and training application. Here are some specific foci 1. Difference between fast and slow twitch muscle fiber capillary supply Slow twitch muscle fibers have up to 9 capillaries per fiber compared to fast twitch muscle fibers having only 2 capillaries per fiber. 2. Difference between motor and sensory nerve supply The efferent motor nerves originate in the central nervous system and cause the muscle to contract when stimulated. Sensory nerves originate in the periphery and send neural feedback or stimuli to the central nervous system. 3. Role played by sensory fibers They play an important protective role preventing damage to the muscle and tendons. 4. Basic muscle structure; how a sarcomere works; role of calcium and ATP Skeletal muscle is usually attached to bone via connective tissue called tendons. Muscle is covered in a connective tissue called epimysium. Muscles are composed of bundles of muscle fiber separated by connective tissue known as perimysium. Each bundle of fibers is referred to as a fasciculus. Each fasciculus is made up of muscle fibers that are
