Meaning, Happiness and the Good Life • Cathal Woods Discussion Paper ("2-pager") #1 In a discussion paper you try to articulate your thoughts on a topic. The emphasis is on your thoughts – you should not repeat ideas from class (or at least, class ideas should only be the starting point of your paper). You are trying to say something intelligent and trying to make it articulate. It's often a good strategy to argue for or against a position, but it's also acceptable to discuss a topic intelligently (without a specific resolution). You may assume that the reader (that is, me, Dr. Woods) is familiar with the background, so you can keep any background to a minimum. Answer one of the following. Take no more than two pages. (I will not read anything on a third piece of paper. It should be a challenge to condense your paper into two pages.) Type, using 1 inch margins, a 12-point font and double spacing. (This will be Standard Operating Procedure for 2-pagers.) Write the topic's number and title at the top of your paper. Reminder: Use your 4-digit number; not your name.
