Politics January 30 2008 Lecture: - Heterosexism - Post structural feminism works to fuck around with our ideas on gender so that it can take power away from one gender - Post Colonialist feminism: Middle class women depend on lower class women reproductive power to maintain their lifestyle and opportunity - Connection between new social movements: it’s used to distinguish movements that started in the 50s, 60s, and 70s from the earlier ones. The old movements were based on class and the new ones based on identity. - The roots of the first wave of feminism stretched out to abolitionist movements etc. o This lead them to reflect on their own social position and they got pissed o Both movements were concerned with equal dignity - the civil rights movement and the second wave of feminism were also connected - the gay rights movement (stonewall riots) and feminist movement also connected - they’re all focused on undoing the bullshit structures caused by systemic- discrimination - Social Structures:
