Robert England HON 111 – Week 3 One of the topics that Rabbi Cantor covered during his lecture was the topic of interpretation. He mentioned how there are a number of different readings and translations of the Bible, each with its own merits. The incredible amount of commentary in that one Hebrew copy of Genesis he used shows how many interpretations there may actually be. I think this is an important topic, because it is someone’s interpretation of a topic that creates a discussion in the first place. If there was one true and obvious interpretation of something, then there would not be anything left to discuss about it. We already know from the preceptorial that everyone has a slightly different view of things. Some of us were raised Catholic, others were raised Protestant, and still others have no real religious background. As such, each of us read this Book from a slightly different viewpoint. People of all ages have read the Bible differently; that is the reason we now have dozens of separate denominations around the world. While one group of people feels that a certain doctrine must be interpreted as one thing, many other groups
