Robert England CMJ 103 – Merrill February 7, 2006 Section I General Purpose: To inform Specific Purpose: To inform new teachers about the basic Japanese elementary school day. Thesis Statement: The average Japanese elementary schoolchild has a much different day than an American child. The audience for this speech will be viewed as a group of young American school teachers who will soon be traveling to Japan to teach as part of an exchange program. It will be their first time teaching in a different country, so they will be receiving a number of lectures about their jobs as teachers before actually heading over. This is one of the lectures, focusing on the students’ average day at school, and how that day is different in Japan from America. Section II A. Introduction: Attention-getting device : Do you remember elementary school? What the day-to- day routines of classroom life were like? It turns out that in Japan, these routines are very different. Thesis : The average Japanese schoolchild has a much different day than an American child. Preview of main points : The main differences include the disciplines of the students, the classes taught, and the extracurricular activities that the students participate in. As upcoming teachers, you will need to be prepared for these differences.
