BP Questions Deuteronomy; Friedman, chapters 5,6,7 1. Friedman offers that the book of Deuteronomy dates from the reign of King Josiah because it was found in the Temple during his reign. Also in the writing it mentions the Davidic covenant passages, which if someone wrote after 587, then they would probably leave this part out. Also in the text they speak of things as existing “to this day”, when it had ended in 587…so why would someone still say this in 560 BC? 2. The covenant that God made with David was that, “Your house and your kingdom will be secure before you forever. You throne will be established forever”. Basically saying that descendents of David will be the kings of this promised land forever and always. This was important in the shaping of the Deuteronomistic history in that Babylon conquers Judah and ends the covenant because they take Jerusalem. A conditional covenant was like the one that talks about holding the throne of Israel by the kings, and the unconditional talks about the kings holding
