Taylor Houston Mrs. Harvey AP Language and Composition 09 September 2015 Virginia Woolf uses a vast array of language in her memoir to reflect upon her childhood summers and convey the lasting significance of these moments. Woolf uses the simile “…the sea was full of place jellyfish, like lamps…” which gives the reader a more detailed and vivid image of her experiences when she went fishing. Next, she incorporated a rhetorical question, “How can I convey the excitement?” As a result, this allows the reader to really question what the au- thor is asking and how it may relate to the story. Also, it gives the reader a chance to generate their own ideas and thoughts in which they could potentially relate back to the author’s view.
