Taylor Houston Mrs. Harvey AP Language and Comp. 31 August 2015 Allegory - Characters or events that are symbols that stand for different ideas like human life or a historical situation. - In Animal Farm, by George Orwell, the actions of the animals on the farm are used to express the greed and corruption of the Communist Revolution in Russia. Allusion - A statement that refers to a person, place, or idea without directly mentioning it. - One could say to their significant other that he or she is their Romeo or Juliet. This is a reference to Romeo and Juliet and their passionate love for each other. Analogy - A comparison when one thing is compared to something that is completely different from it. -In the movie Forrest Gump , Forrest says, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” Life is not anything like chocolate, but he means that life is unpre- dictable. Anaphora - Repetition of the first part of a sentence in order to achieve a certain effect.
