NMC Hagannah (1920): Established in 1920 to guard Jewish outposts. In 1930s they became better equipped and were used by the GB’s to counter Arab Revolts. A Jewish Brigaide was created in the British Army during the war. They emerged after WWII with great experience and training. Lecture - Stalin pissed at Turkey - Britain couldn’t help Greece and Turkey so the USA helped with the Truman Doctrine - The USA would help gov’ts facing pressures from Soviet forces - Britain abdicated its power role in the Middle east - Iran saw an American political role - Soviets were slow to move out of north western iran - Stalin wanted to get political and economic concessions - The parliamentary gov’t in Iran got a Soviet withdraw in 1947 thanks to the USA - Most Iranians who were associated with the Tehran gov’t saw the US as a positive force - Many in Iran were convinced that a larger American role in the region should be encouraged against Soviet and Britains crap - GB faced pressure from the USA to stop the restrictions and the Jewish militias
