Trang Pham Nov 30, 2015 History 202 Fall 2015 class Mini Research Project Example of Primary source: “The 13th Amendment to the Constitution declared that “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” Formally abolishing slavery in the United States, the 13th Amendment was passed by the Congress on January 31, 1865, and ratified by the states on December 6, 1865.” Primary source is an artifact, a document, a recording, or other source of information that was created at the time under study. It serves as an original source of information about the topic. It helps to inform us on the past, because they serve as evidence. They were created contemporary to, or very near to, the event or time period being studied, and thus they are representative.
