This musical direction becamepopular worldwide, which can be explained by the characteristics of this kind of music. Thecharacteristic features of the musical language of jazz is original improvisation, a sophisticatedrhythm that is based on the syncopated figures. The rhythm of the free jazz distinguishes it fromthe vast majority of other musical styles(Lesson 11). The main feature of jazz rhythm is aregular pulsation, so-called "beat", and “swing” that are a deviation from the rhythm. Two thesefeatures originate from the folk traditions of African music. It is not by chance, because jazzoriginated in the communities of African American slaves. In addition to the special role of theexpressive rhythm of jazz and other inherited traits of African folk music jazz included aninterpretation of sounds of all musical instruments like drums, the prevalence of conversationalintonations in singing and an imitation of conversation when a musician plays his instrument.Musical songs, performed by black musicians, often have a form of a very short alternating solomotif – changing of choral or instrumental questions and answers.
