Companies want to get a good job/organization fit o Questions Do you fit with corporate culture? Do you fit with the values of the firm? Do you fit with the other people in the firm? o Benefits High motivation/satisfaction High commitment to organization Talent retention o Costs of misfit Dissatisfaction and poor performance Absenteeism and turnover Ex. Costs of replacing employee who leaves a company are 1.5 to 2.5 times the annual salary of that employee’s job Not counting performance lost when you’re out searching o McDonald’s has about 180-22% turnover every year Roughly replaces its workforce every 5 to 6 months Not much concern about a good fit Attribution Theory (see Leader as Sense Maker) o Lets you tell whether a low job performance is the employee’s fault or the fault of their environment
