Lindsay Kramer Psych 330-01 Dr. Austad 9/18/07 NIMH evidence based paper The National Institute of Mental Health, also known as NIMH, is the largest scientific organization in the world that is dedicated to research focused on the understanding, treatment, and prevention of mental health issues and the promotion of mental health. Some NIMH research that is important towards psychology is their internal division, where scientists are conducting research involving; mechanisms of the brain, brain functioning, cellular and molecular levels, clinical investigations, and finding the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of a mental illness. These eating disorders relate to abnormal psychology because a person should not be putting themselves in such dangerous and self mutilating situations. Although the numbers are high, many people should not be suffering from bulimia, anorexia, or binge eating. EBM at Duke University stands for Evidence Based Medicine. This can apply to mental health because to diagnose a problem, it must be supported with evidence, this includes mental health issues.
