T.L.O. 469 U.S. 325 (1985) A teacher at a New Jersey high school, found a 14 year old girl freshman and her companion smoking cigarettes in a school bathroom, which is in violation of the school rule, and took the students to the Principal’s office. They met with the assistant principal, and the girl denied the questions referring to smoking in the lavatory, and claimed she was not smoking at all, at which point the Assistant principal demanded to see her purse. Upon giving up her purse, the principal found a pack of cigarettes and also noticed a pack or rolling papers, commonly associated with rolling marijuana cigarettes.
