Lindsay Kramer February 6, 2008 BMS 113 Unit 0 Unit Zero The five steps of the scientific method are first observation, second developing a hypothesis, third collecting data and running the experiment, fourthly the manipulation and analysis of the data, and lastly reporting conclusions. The hypothesis for this problem is that salt is leeching into the ground and mixing with the water that nourishes the corn and is causing the corn to be smaller, have fewer kernels per ear, fewer ears per stalk, and a lower weight of each ear of corn. The Independent Variable is the amount of salt that leeches into the corn. The Dependent Variable is the growth and the development of the corn. The control group is the inland farms that do not have and salt in the water mixture. In running this experiment I would expose corn to different amounts of salt in water mixture. The plants would be watered daily with the proper amount of sunlight exposure. At the end of the experiment, measure the number of kernels per ear, the length
