Combat Stress: Comradeship
The marines are experiencing an increase in mental health illness among the troops which return
from battles. Col. David Furness believes that when the Marines are in the company of their
colleagues whom they have trained and deployed together, they have a great chance of
recovering from stress. Dr. Mathew Friedman says the new approach is effective as it will ensure
that the military will not lose their forces as either from deaths or from posttraumatic stress
disorders. Moreover, he states that research has proved that military heal better from battle field
stress as well as post war stress when they in the company of their colleagues. In addition,
Marine commanders believe the new approach is working hence brought in the Rand officer to
quantify.
In my opinion, the new approach was effective. After the death of Cpl. Wade, his friend Lance
Cpl. Voie was going through stress. Doc Presley looked for Lance Cpl. Voie to encourage and
console him for the demise of his friend. The troop ensured Lance Cpl. Voie was not left alone.
