Text:
Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 8th edition, by James Stewart. We will cover mate-
rial taken from Chapters 5-7 and 9-11.
Course Notes:
Course notes for the following week will be posted on Learn at the end of
each week. Please print these out and bring to lecture. These are not a complete set of notes
and any blank spaces are there for you to fill in with examples and proofs in class. If you
miss a lecture, it is your responsibility to contact a classmate to obtain a completed set of
notes.
Assignments:
There will be 10 assignments, which will be due on Fridays at 3:00 p.m. each
week except for the first week and the week of the midterm. Assignments will be submitted
and returned electronically through Crowdmark. You will receive an email with the subject
“Crowdmark mailer” with a link to view and print the assignment. Please keep this email
as it also contains the link to submit. Late assignments will not be graded and server delays
will not be accepted as a valid excuse. Give yourself plenty of time to scan and upload your
assignment. There are free apps like CamScanner and TinyScan that you can use to scan
with your smartphone.
Quizzes:
There will be 10 quizzes given during tutorial. Each quiz will cover material from
the previous week. You will have 20 minutes to complete each quiz. There will be no quiz in
weeks 1 and 8.
Website:
We will use LEARN (learn.uwaterloo.ca) for the purpose of distributing course
notes, assignments, assignment solutions, quiz solutions and for the occasional announcement
(for example, test locations). We will also use Piazza for course discussion, questions and
online office hours. Our course page is piazza.com/uwaterloo.ca/spring2016/math138/
