Deafness as a Disability Facts Scuba divers often use sign language under water. Deaf people can sign/talk at great distances without the use of amplification through the use of sign language. Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone, was originally an instructor for deaf children and invented the telephone to help his deaf wife and mother to hear. Deaf people vote, pay taxes, drive cars, and attend business, social, and religious events. .. ASL is the 4 th most used language in the United States Annually, 3,500 people are born profoundly deaf. Juliette Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of America, was deaf. There is a Deaf Awareness Week every year. May 1 st – 7 th and also The National Association of the Deaf near Washington, D.C., was founded in 1880 to protect the rights of the deaf. There have been deaf newspaper columnists and editors, airplane mechanics, truckers, and pilots.

(Journey Into the DEAF – WORLD) ° A Deaf individual must claim their deafness as a disability if they want to receive financial assistance. ° Receiving the financial assistance in the categories of Education, Work, Transportation, City Town affairs, and many others....
