Touch Priority sense Pain o Is your body’s way of telling you that something has gone wrong o not only of the senses of the region we feel it but also the brain o Phantom limb sensations a person feels pain in a nonexistent limb o Tinnitus constant ringing in ones ear o no one type of stimulus that triggers pain o at low intensities stimuli that causes pain can also cause sensation o gate-control theory - the spinal cord contains a neurological “gate” that blocks pain signals or allows them to pass on to the brain. The “gate” is opened by the activity of pain signals traveling up small nerve fibers and is closed by activity in larger fibers or by information coming from the brain. o People would rather long ending verse short painful ending Why is touch a priority sense? Taste four basic sensations o sweet, sour, salty, bitter chemical sense o bumps on tongue (taste buds) → molecules sensed by taste receptor cells (project antenna like hairs into the pore ) o
