John Smith Period: 4 October 11, 2004 The Shark that Met its Match I am writing with a green ballpoint pen. It is my favorite pen above all others, not for any specific reason. I make sure it goes everywhere with me. The way it glides across the paper leaving it’s dark forest green trail behind it keeps me mystified. My love for this small little pen became a blessing when I went to the beach last Tuesday. Never in my wildest dreams did I think my pen would help me in the way it did. The clock on the lifeguard station struck twelve noon as I lay on the coarse sand. I was soaking up every ray of sizzling sunlight I could, hoping in return I would get a nice even tan. The crashing waves sent a light mist towards me and light drops of moisture settled themselves on my back. I decided it was time for me to take a quick refreshing swim in the ocean to cool off my body. I made sure I had my green pen and then slowly raised myself. I became a little lightheaded as I started to walk down to the water and
