Venus is closer to the sun, yet absorbs less energy. 12. Venus’ distance from the sun is .72 AU while Earth’s is 1 AU. Venus is therefore closer to the sun and receives more energy. Also Venus’ greenhouse radiation (510.270) is significantly higher than Earth’s (32.98) which makes the planet hotter. 13. Mars is further from the sun than Earth is. Mars is 1.52 AU from the sun, while Earth is 1 AU. The solar flux of Mars is much lower than Earth’s as well. Earth’s solar flux is 1370 Watts/m^2 while Mars’ solar flux is at 592.970. Mars receives less sunlight than Earth; this is the most important factor when considering the planet’s temperature. 14.
