LEADERSHIP IN HEALTHCARE TRANSFORMATION2AbstractChange is an inevitable process in healthcare. Changes in technological advances, diseasetrends, and treatment discoveries have necessitated changes in healthcare. Kotter’s eight-stepchange process has served as a framework to guide health care leaders in drivingorganizational changes. However, several barriers are associated with the use of Kotter’sprocess of change. The organizational transformation has remained an important process inachieving better and improved processes. Healthcare leaders can use rational decision-making processes to make effective and the best possible decisions in health care. Health careleaders should understand the external and internal environmental factors that can potentiallyaffect strategic plans, performance, and quality of health care services.Leadership in Healthcare Transformation

The model provides an 8-step process that can be used for leading change efforts by providing a methodology toachieve the change. The eight steps include creating a sense of urgency, forming powerfulcoalitions, creating a vision for change, communicating the vision for buy-in, removingobstacles, generating short-term wins, building on the change, and anchoring changes incorporate culture. Generally, these steps provide a practical and straightforward approach tocreating and managing change (Wheeler & Holmes, 2017). A sense of urgency is createdthrough an event, perception, or change that triggers new ways of doing things. According toWheeler and Holmes (2017), a change of urgency is necessary because the change can beperceived as a threat to the conventional approaches, and a leader can help individuals to trynew promising methods.
