Carper 1 Kate Carper Mr. Siraguse 4A A. P. Government November 25, 2007 Neil Abercrombie Neil Abercrombie was born June 26, 1938, in Buffalo, New York. He attended Union College were he received his Bachelors degree. He continued he education at University of Hawaii were he earned his Masters degree as well as his Ph.D. Abercrombie currently lives in Honolulu, Hawaii and is married to his wife Nancie Caraway. He is a member of the Democratic Party and was first elected to office 1986 in a special election just to fill the place of Cecil Heftel. Abercrombie was only in office from September 20, 1986 to January 3, 1987. He tried for re-election and was unsuccessful until the election on November 6, 1990. His political resume has consisted of: Hawaii State Senate, Hawaii House of Representatives, and Honolulu City Council. Abercrombie is a member on many committees in his community such as: House Committee on Armed Services, Subcommittee on Seapower and Expeditionary Forces, House Committee on Natural Resources, Subcommittee on Fisheries Wildlife and Oceans, and Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands. He is on the Board of Directors for two main organizations; Epilepsy Foundation of America and Hawaii Special Olympics. Neil Abercrombie is not only extremely involved in his community but also works hard to support is government position. Abercrombie strongly supports the matter of bringing the troops home from Iraq.
