2 Simplifying Expressions Week 1 – Simplifying Expressions In this assignment we evaluate 4 equations by simplifying the expressions using the distributive property. Each of the problems could be real world examples as we use the distributive property to simplify problems daily. It can be used in many daily activities such as at a grocery store, or a sale at the mall, or even calculating project time at work we use this process without even realizing it. The first problem is listed as 2a (a-5) +4(a-5) in order to simplify the expression we must use the distributive property to remove the parentheses . This is done by multiplying 2a by a – 5 and multiplying 4 by a -5 resulting in . Now Like terms are combined by adding the coefficients (-10a+4a = -6a). The simplified answer comes to .
