Jennifer Woelke Take-home Quiz #5 F.A.T. City Video 1.) What is the difference between seeing and perceiving? Why is this important when teaching students with learning disabilities? In Dr. Lavoie’s video, he demonstrated the difference between seeing and perceiving in the activity with the picture of the cow. He showed that in the eyes on a child with a learning disorder, a picture or a situation may be seen however it may have no real meaning or story behind it. In the instance of the cow picture, many of the adults in the class could not distinguish any real figure in the black and white photo that was given to them. After staring at the picture for several minutes, they could still not see a form of any recognizable object. Dr. Lavoie proved that it takes extra guidance for children with learning disorders to see the main point, or the focus, of such pictures.
