Alvanna O October 4, 2007 Writ 1E Hochstetler Auyang, Sunny. “Engineers in Society” In the first part of Auyang’s essay, he talks about how engineers were seen in early society. He talks about how in the beginning engineers were looked down upon and how they were mostly low-class “uneducated” people. Then more and more people started realizing that most engineers were educated in literature and culture too. Unformatted text preview: this article. I knew that people of science weren’t really accepted in the earlier times, but I didn’t know to what extent. Engineers had to go through a lot of obstacles before that could become culturally accepted. I would think that being looked down upon for knowing science and math would discourage many people from even thinking about being an engineer. At the end of the first part, Auyang starts talking about “science wars” and I’m very interested in hearing more about that....
