William Vahey Section 4103 Mission I have done a lot in the 18 years I have lived. I have traveled to parts of the world that people dream about, I have won two state-championship titles with two straight undefeated seasons of water polo, and I can count on one hand how many water polo games I have lost in my entire high school career. I have held jobs where people vacation and met plenty of famous people. I have completed ground school and completed a solo flight in a Cessna. This is just the tip of the ice burg, but none of the things that I have accomplished were just given to me. I have put days and in some cases months of hard work and dedication to achieve the things that I have done. There was never a time in my life where I chose to take the easy way out of anything, and I firmly believe that that is the soul reason of where I am today. My mission in life is to make sure that I never take the easy way out of a situation and that I face every obstacle head-on. To do this, I will maintain a strong sense of integrity and I will remain loyal to my mission. Ever since I can remember, my mother has always told me that when the going gets tough, the tough get going. I grew up in a broken home and to say the least, it was not easy. I could have used that as an excuse to stop going to school and start taking drugs, but the truth was that it motivated me to do the complete opposite. I was not going to be the typical product of a broken home and ever since I was young, I made sure of it. When I say that I do not want to take the easy route out, I am referring to being my own coach. As an example I will refer to water polo practice. I could just go to practice and not put forth any effort without anyone really noticing, but what would I get out of it? If I don’t have the integrity to train myself then what would happen if my 1
