Sydnee ShulerHum 100Project ProposalDancehall Music/Dancing is a big part of the Jamaican Culture. Dancehall Is one of the ways I like toexpress myself. If you know me, you know I am a shy person and dancehall has this type of way ofbringing out the attitude and forces you to show people you are not a person to be messed with.Dancehall originated in the late 1970s. At the beginning dancehall was more of a meager version ofreggae than the roots style, which dominated most of the late 1970s; Early 80s. It is a type of dance andmusic that branched off reggae. Many dancehall songs are completely dedicated to the moves involved.Dancehall Developed from people That lived in inner-city part of Kingston, since they were not allowedto attend Uptown dances. They began creating dance halls in the 1940s where they could have a danceof their own. the change in the sociopolitical atmosphere of Jamaica in the 1970s made dancehallbecome known, musicians began moving away from the root style (reggae) and gave more importanceto the local culture, this is when the modern form of dancehall really began to emerge.
