Many timeswhen a cultural is formed it is built around commerce and agriculture was the center of commerce for thousands of years. This directly influenced what a hundreds of societies developed around with cultural growth. This in turn created different value systems which are "represents what is expected or hoped for in a culture, not necessarily what actual occurs" (Ferraro, 2013). If a culture was low on natural resources, typically pillaging would be resorted to make up for the lower supplies.
