Unformatted text preview: some benefit to the wider society. Education is a form of empowerment, and as such I believe that it can play a significant role in the reformation of prisoners. A well-educated prisoner, upon his release from prison, may have more available opportunities and may therefore be less likely to return to a life of crime. This will have a positive impact on society, because not only is this person now able to contribute to their community in a meaningful way, but he can also serve as a role model to others who may have been heading down a similar path. In conclusion, while I do believe that the provision of free college education to prison inmates is unfair to those who are forced to pay, I disagree that the policy should be discontinued....
