WRIT-101 Prof. Iannucci 10/11/07 The Future Of Entertainment Will video games become the primary form of entertainment in the next five years? Although it might seem unlikely to the average non-gamer, interactive media is becoming increasingly popular in the mainstream, as analysts continue to predict record growth for the industry. This can partially be attributed to some companies adopting what’s known as the “Blue Ocean Strategy”, as well as some games becoming epic experiences that rival the latest Hollywood movies. Within the last two years, many video game developers have begun creating software geared specifically toward a much wider audience. Game companies are no longer focusing all their attention on the young male demographic, which had been the primary consumer for their products. This recent trend of targeting a broader untapped audience is known as the “Blue Ocean Strategy”.
