Brittany Tiplady GHIST 102 Section 1 September 15, 2005 American Holocaust David Stannard wrote the book American Holocaust in which he states his opinions concerning the exploration of the new world. In this book he argues that the mass murder of the Indians was driven by greed and Christianity. The explorers and the colonists were greedy for land and the Christians wanted to destroy all peoples that would not accept Christianity as their one true religion. In American Holocaust , Stannard made his point clear that he was an advocate for the Indians and disagreed completely and wholeheartedly against the methods that the explorers and colonists used when interacting with them. He included many different primary sources and accounts that show how foul the colonists were to the natives of the land. “There was one little child, probably three years old, just big enough to walk through the sand… I saw one man get off his horse, at a distance of about seventy-five yards, and draw up his rifle and fire-he missed the child… A third man came up and
