OnAril 6, 1994 a plane transporting presidents Habyarimana and Cyprien Ntaryamira was shot killing bothpresidents. The Hutus blamed the Tutsi. When the Tutsi claimed they didn’t do it, the Hutus began toattack them. Before the genocide happened the Tutsi and Hutus had tension of who should have morepower. Eventually, the Hutus ran the government. When in government the Tutsi were killed or forced toleave Rwanda because they were seen as a threat in Hutus eyes. These attacks contributed to the Hutusdisliking the Tutsi in the genocide of 1994.Before the genocide, Tutsi were wealthy and led the government, while the Hutu were poor andwere on the lower side of the social status. When the king who ruled died, the Hutu took advantage ofcontrolling the Tutsi. Many Tutsi were murdered or forced to leave Rwanda because they were seen as athreat. According to Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, “The first election held in Rwanda saw the Hutumajority being elected.” Soon Rwanda became a one party country Tutsi were denied jobs leading topoverty.
